Cities Alliances

Making Knowledge Accessible - Rethinking the Knowledge Library

Cities Alliances (hosted by UNOPS) is a global partnership fighting urban poverty and supporting cities to deliver sustainable development. Its knowledge library provides access to resources on urban challenges around the world. Users can search reports, articles, and events regarding new developments, policies, or solutions.

Cities Alliances set a goal to relaunch this knowledge library with increased accessibility and improved filtering options for search results. Users of the existing library had difficulty finding it, using the navigation, and staying within the flow of their research.

With a clear focus on increasing their brand recognition through improved layout, I accommodated visual elements including color palette and illustrations.

GoldCashBuyers

Responsive Website Design

GoldCashBuyers offer their customers money for unwanted jewelry and coins. I was asked to redesign their response website for desktop and mobile optimization, as well as alter the hierarchy. The site needed modernization, including the submission form which also required more prominence on the site.

Sysco

Take Stock Magazine Issue 1 (print)

Pallas Foods were merging with Sysco, so I was contracted to design the first edition of their employee magazine “Take Stock”. Alongside regular content, this edition included details regarding the merge. As well as design, I enhanced graphical elements including color ranges, shapes, and typography.

Play Magazine Design (digital)

The “Play Magazine” is a solely digital publication offered by Virgin Media Ireland to its customers. Following specific branding guidelines, I designed the content and layout of articles, creating captivating headlines for each piece. Incorporating their recently rebranded style, I worked new colors, shapes, and elements into the content.

Uxbeginner.com

Educational social media posts on UX

Social media posts were created to educate and inform about relevant topics. These were divided into “nuggets” while keeping the content engaging. Our series called “Andra Asks Oz” included exploring questions from the blog. Following initial ideas, I redesigned cleaner, clearer versions of the posts.

H.A.R.D. App

Disaster Risk Management Made Simple

CIUrb determined that a mobile version of their existing disaster risk management web application was needed to provide their governmental users with faster, easier communication with citizens. The web app is being used in several countries to inform citizens of information in emergency situations. The mobile app adds the ability for citizens to actively participate in emergency management by reporting issues as well.

City Works

Proposing Solutions to Win Projects

City Works, is developing and providing advisory tools for better implementation of international agendas at a local level. For now, the platform is not interactive, and is simply a resource that indexes information and workshops. Their goal is to integrate these resources into one application that can be used virtually and remotely by its users.

UN-Habitat and UNECE

Sustainable Housing and Urban Development Guideline Modernization

The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) traditionally used a 60-page manual of guidelines to develop policies related to sustainable housing and urban development. I was approached to transform the manual into a modern, accessible resource. The challenge was to map out the information architecture of a new website and determine a prioritized information hierarchy, with an approach for managing less important content in an unobtrusive way.

UN-Habitat

Finding Opportunities to Urbanize Slums

In underdeveloped countries, slums still exist. These areas have no infrastructure like running water or electricity, and the people who call them home live in little more than lean-tos. The UN-Habitat Programme works to urbanize or develop areas where slums are located to provide adequate housing, resources, and programs for the residents. In order to identify which slums to prioritize, the group used a lengthy, manual process. I was asked to lead user strategy and design for the creation of the Electronic Strategic Financing Framework (E-SFF). E-SFF is a web-based application created to break down the complexity of the process while reducing the number of resources required to complete assessments. My job was to streamline the user experience, provide alternatives to monotonous data entry, and help users to work more autonomously.
